SVEF…working with the community to ensure academic excellence in Saddleback Valley schools

The Saddleback Valley Educational Foundation (SVEF) offers a wide variety of programs which will be greatly enhanced by your contribution.

Each program enriches the educational experience of students in SVUSD, and no portion of your contribution is used for management costs.

The Budget Crisis

The State of California is facing a shortfall in revenue of an estimated $28 billion through June 2010. The Governor has called a "fiscal emergency" special session of the Legislature. Saddleback Valley USD has put into effect an immediate freeze on all spending except for health and safety matters. According to Superintendent Steven Fish, it is very apparent that we will be facing huge reductions to our current year revenue and can expect the reductions to remain in place at least through the 2009-2010 school year. The latest estimates indicate that we need to cut $10-12 million mid-year 2008-09 and an additional $13 million in the 2009-10 school year. The future of education in the state and in our district is clearly in jeopardy. Without swift action by the state legislature and financial assistance from the community, the District is facing the possibility of devastating cuts to programs like class size reduction, music, International Baccalaureate (IB), Language Arts Assistance Program (LAAP), and athletics.

SVEF is working with the community, the PTA Council, and others to help raise funds to support programs in all of the schools, not just individual schools.
